Sunrise Trail Ellsworth Extension Public Meeting

October 29, 2014 6:00 - 8:00 PM Ellsworth City Hall

You are invited to attend a meeting regarding the extension of the Downeast Sunrise Multi-Use Trail (DEST) from Ellsworth to Washington Junction.  This meeting will be on October 29th at 6:00 PM in the Auditorium at Ellsworth City Hall.  The intent of this meeting is to listen to concerns and answer questions you may have regarding this project.  Staff from the Department of Transportation, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry will be on hand to provide details and help address your concerns.  This extension was part of the original 2006 “Trail Management Plan and Proposal” for the Calais Branch Corridor.  This will be a “rail and trail” system, the recreational trail will run beside the existing rail road line, which is unlike the majority of the existing DEST. This will be an 8’ to 10’ wide multi-use trail and will accommodate: walkers, bikers, equestrians, ATVs, snowmobiles, mushers, skiers, as well as, other pedestrian activities. Currently, we are anticipating this project to be completed in 2016.  Please join us on October 29th to discuss this important project.
